It has been a busy month for Sangrok with lots of new students, 2 gradings, and a return to our full training schedule!

COVID-19 training update

Sangrok continues to run all our classes with the health and wellbeing of our students as our top priority.

The Sangrok Taekwondo Return to Training Plan for Stage 2.2 has been developed in accordance with federal and state government and Australian Taekwondo frameworks for the safe return to taekwondo training. This plan outlines the changes made to training at Sangrok, including arrival and departure procedures, class sizes, cleaning, and hygiene expectations. As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please just ask!

Please note, this information is subject to change and is dependent on current government restrictions.

Registering for classes

Sangrok has increased class sizes to 22 students, however, students must still pre-register for classes. Instructions for class registration can be found HERE. There is a waiting list for classes that are full.

If you can’t make a class that you have enrolled in, please remember to cancel your booking so that others can attend.

Timetable

Sangrok classes will be running as usual over the school holidays so you can keep up your training!

We also have training videos on our website, so you can keep up your taekwondo training from home or holidays too! If you need the password for the secure section of our website, just ask!

You may have noticed that the 7.30 am class on Saturday morning has changed to “Intermediate focused class”. All students are welcome to attend this class, however, the skills and techniques will be aimed at the intermediate level.

Grading

We had a huge weekend of gradings over the weekend with so many students achieving a new belt or stripe! Congratulations to all who participated.

On Sunday evening Sangrok held a black belt grading and after starting with Sangrok as white belts, Meghana and Laasya received cho dan bo black belts! Congratulations!

Fiona, who has come to Sangrok from a different club, was also awarded a cho dan bo belt. Congratulations Fiona.

Stocktake sale

Sangrok is selling all the remaining sparring and protective gear at cost price so this is a great time to grab a bargain! We have shin and foot protectors, shoes (that you can wear on the mats), helmets, groin guards, and forearm and elbow padding.

If you would like something that we don’t have in stock we can get it for you. There is a price list in the club so just let Libby know what you would like.

Student spotlight!

Name: Genevieve (Gen)
Favourite kick: Ap chagi (front kick). It’s the one I feel strongest at.
Why did you start taekwondo: I wanted to get the kids into a fitness hobby. We came along with a voucher and Sabunim Pravin asked if I wanted to participate. My participation helped the kids join in and I had so much fun I just had to keep coming back!
What do you love about taekwondo? How much it pushes me – every training I come away a little stronger, a little fitter, and with a new or improved skill. And I’m learning a new language too!
Favourite food: That’s not a fair question. I love all food! I’ll pick a genre – I’m a sucker for Italian food. Garlic, pasta, tomatoes or cream-based sauce… It’s all delish.
What do you do for work or fun? Hmm, work is a bit boring, but I do medieval-ish sword fighting for fun! (We use rattan weapons and wear armour)
What is something we might not know about you: I was actually born in Australia. I grew up here but moved to the US when I was 12 and that’s why I have an American accent.
Your advice for someone starting taekwondo: Just do what you can! Don’t worry if your kick isn’t as high as the black belts or you fall over every time you attempt a yeop chagi (side kick)… just keep practicing your balance and flexibility, the skill will come. As Sabonim Pravin loves to say “it’s not what you can do today, it’s what you can do tomorrow!”

Name: Ethan
Belt: Grey
Favourite taekwondo move: Hook kick. It looks really good to watch and it’s great when you try it and get it right.
Favourite subject at school: Maths. I like getting the answers right and maths is all about logic.
What do you love about taekwondo? Group poomsae. It’s more fun to do poomsae with a group and helps you improve your moves.
Favourite holiday spot: Fiji. I love the sun and swimming all day.
Favourite movie: Artemis Fowl. The movie was terrible but I’m loyal because it’s my favourite book.
What fun stuff do you like to do? Listen to audio books. I’m currently working through the Harry Potter books narrated by Stephen Fry. I also love basketball, Minecraft, and chatting to my friends and family on Messenger.
What is something people might not know about you? I am a keen archer. I have my own compound bow and steel arrows that I use when practising at home with Dad.
