COVIDSafe training at Sangrok

We are committed to providing our students with a safe training space. That is why we developed our Sangrok Return to Training Plan 2.2 in accordance with federal and state government restrictions and the guidance of Australian Taekwondo. You may have heard that ACT will be further reducing restrictions from Monday the 10th of August, with one change being an allowance of up to 100 spectators at sporting events. Due to the space limitations in our dojang, Sangrok will not be allowing spectators at this time. This is to ensure adequate physical distancing in our dojang and to maximise the number of students who can train at each class.

The Sangrok team continues to disinfect surfaces between classes and we have engaged a professional cleaner to ensure the dojang is thoroughly cleaned three times per week. We ask students to continue to pre-book classes so that class numbers aren’t exceeded and we have a complete record of everyone who attended training (a requirement for being open for training), use hand sanitiser on entry to Sangrok and to please stay home if you are feeling unwell (unfortunately this includes annoying cough and runny noses).

We thank you for your understanding as we all negotiate the post-lock down restrictions.

Upcoming events

Intermediate self defence workshop – Thursday 20 August 2020
Tripharn is running an intermediate workshop for students, 14 years and older, who want to learn more advanced self defence techniques. It will run from 6-8pm on Thursday the 20th of August. Limited to 16 students. REGISTER HERE

Senior belt workshop – Sunday 30 August
Master Pravin will be running a senior belt workshop for red and black belts on Sunday the 30th of August from 11am. The workshop will run for 3 hours. Invitations to come soon.

Spring grading – 26 September 2020
We will be holding our term 3 grading on Saturday the 26th of September. Grading will be by invitation only. Participation at grading is based on class attendance (generally for lower belts, students who train twice per week will be eligible to attend grading every three months) and demonstrated skill and effort over the term. For red belts and above, attendance at grading is based on your individual pre-grading assessment.

Black belt grading – 25 October 2020
The date for our next black belt grading has been tentatively set for Sunday the 25th of October.

Pre-grading assessment for red belts and above

Just a reminder that any students who intend to grade from red belt and above need to complete a pre-grading assessment to be eligible for grading. This is a checklist that can be signed off by your instructor at any time to show that you can demonstrate the required skills, technique, fitness, and attitude required to grade to the next belt. It is your responsibility to ensure this is completed at least 2 weeks prior to the grading that you wish to attend.

Sangrok homework

Just like all sports and hobbies, to continually improve and develop your taekwondo skills and fitness we need to practice at home too. If you get piano lessons you practice by yourself at home between your lessons, if you play soccer you might go for a run between games, if you want to get better at computer games you practice often… it is the same for taekwondo. That is why we will be sending an email out every few weeks with some suggested activities you can do at home. We recommend all our students do some taekwondo practice in their own time. This could include activities from our homework email, practicing your poomsae, practicing kicks, strikes, blocks and stances, or just going for a walk, run or bike ride.
