By Matthew De Bortoli (Sangrok student) Recently I was lucky enough to attend the Show Passion Korea #SHOWPASSIONKOREA performance at the Cultural Centre at Kambri ANU, Canberra. The show included the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team, Korean Representative B-Boy group ‘Fusion MC’ and the Dong Rak Traditional Performing Arts Group. The professionalism, skill and precision of all these unbelievable groups was awe-inspiring. Check out this incredible video of the Kukkiwon Team taken by The Slow Mo Guys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlzVmOUP1is and the Invincible Breaking competition in China at…Continue Reading “Show Passion Korea”
On the 6th of April, 40 Sangrok students participated in our first grading of 2019. This was the first grading held since the new curriculum and grading format was implemented in January. What words come to mind when you think of sparring? If you’re anything like me, it might look something like this: Intimidating and scary Too hard Risky Fighting Embarrassing But what is sparring at Sangrok about? It’s not intimidating, it’s a learning opportunity Okay, I won’t lie, it can still be a bit scary, but it’s important to remember when we spar we’re not looking to hurt each other, we are looking for ways to use the blocking, striking and combinations that we learn in…Continue Reading “Sparring at Sangrok”
Poomsae. What is it good for? It’s easy to think of poomsae as just a series of blocks and strikes we need to remember for grading, but it’s so much more than that. Poomsae is a way of teaching, learning and practising valuable self defence techniques. Last Friday night (01/03/19) instructor Tripharn Teki ran the second Introduction to Self Defence workshop for Sangrok students and their friends and family. These workshops focus on the practical application of poomsae from a self defence perspective. The class…Continue Reading “Self Defence Workshop recap (1st March)”
So you are interested in training with your children, but you aren’t exactly sure what that means? At Sangrok we are a family orientated club, especially our Saturday morning classes. This means that: Children of all ages are encouraged to train with their parents. The youngest children who can train for a full session are about 4 years old, however, this does depend on the amount of parental involvement. We have a play area where younger children can play while still visible to their parents…Continue Reading “Family training”
So you have decided to join and you are now learning to tie your belt. There are a number of different options, however, the video below provides a perfectly suitable method to tie your belt: If you have any questions, then definitely ask one of your instructors.
WELCOME! We would love to have you come and experience taekwondo with us! Bring a drink bottle and loose fitting clothes and arrive ten minutes early. If you decide to stay we can arrange a uniform for you. We train in bare feet, so shoes that you can easily remove and put on are useful. Please remove watches, dangly earrings and bracelets. Children from age 4 are welcome to come and train. Families often all train together. The class starts with all students lining up,…Continue Reading “What to expect during your first lesson”
