Spring is almost here – hopefully that means not too many more cold mornings at training! We have a busy end to the year coming up with 3 gradings and self defence workshops.

SIGNING IN

Please remember to sign in for each class using the iPad at the table. If you’re unsure how to sign in, check with an instructor or a classmate.  Signing in is important for a number of reasons:

  • The first step in assessing grading eligibility is class attendance. Without signing in, you won’t receive an invitation for grading as our system marks you as ineligible for grading. Given the amount of extra work that chasing up attendance puts on our team of volunteers, we will no longer be following up when students may be attending but not signing in – grading invitations simply won’t be sent to students not signing in.
  • You may not be insured if you don’t sign into classes.
  • The data from class attendance helps us to analyse where we can make changes to our training schedule.

REGISTERING FOR CLASSES

We have experienced some large classes of up to 30 students recently. We have a class registration system to ensure that classes are limited to 22-24 students. This means that we can continue to provide high quality, safe training for all our members. Please register for all classes prior to attendance (if you need for portal details re-sent, please just send us an email). If you don’t register for classes, you may be unable to sign in, and the training will not count towards grading.

If a class is full, please let us know by email and we can usually make changes to fit you in.

RUBBISH IN BATHROOMS

Over the last couple of months, we have found food rubbish, such as empty tuna cans, rice packets, chip packets, and other indeterminate waste, in the bathroom cupboards and drawers. If you have any food waste, please ensure it goes in the bin in the kitchenette.

SELF DEFENCE WORKSHOPS

We will be holding beginners and intermediate practical self defence workshops in Term 4. Tentative dates have been set, but these will be confirmed in Term 4:

Beginner workshop – Sunday 22 October
Intermediate workshop – Sunday 19 November

INSURANCES 2023

In previous years, students have paid a yearly AUSTKD and membership and insurance fee. This year Sangrok has been able to cover these costs. If you would like to know your AUSTKD membership number, please let us know.

UPCOMING GRADING

The Term 3 grading will be held on 16 September from 10.45am. Invitations have been sent. If you were expecting an invitation and you didn’t receive one, please check our website for the grading policy and if still unsure, speak to Erin or Tripharn at training or send us an email.

The 10.30am class on Saturday 16 September has been cancelled to accommodate grading and students registered for this class have been notified by email.

INSTRUCTOR NEWS

Senior instructor Trip joined a seminar for the Australasian Federation of Traditional Karate and Kobudo in the ACT with a range of other instructors and students across many different styles. It was a great opportunity for him to continue his own training, bring new ideas back to Sangrok, and continue to build our connections in our wider martial arts community.

TRAINING FOCUS

2 SEPT – Step sparring + games/conditioning
9 SEPT – Self defence + fitness
16 SEPT – GRADING + instructor choice
23 SEPT – Instructor choice
