June has been a big month with the coloured belt grading and our introductory knife workshop. Congratulations to all those who graded, you should be proud of your achievements. Darien’s knife workshop was a great opportunity to learn new self-defence skills and it was a fun morning for those who attended. We have more events coming up this term, so we hope you will join us!
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS TRAINING SCHEDULE
All classes will run as usual over the school holiday period. Our focus for 2 weeks will be “Instructor Choice”, so you can expect a wide range of classes over the next couple of weeks!
RED AND BLACK BELT GRADING
If you would like to be considered for promotion at our next red or black belt grading, remember to start working towards the completion of your pre-grading assessment. You will need enough time for feedback and improvement cycles. The red belt grading will be held on Saturday 17 September, so you will need to ensure that your pre-grading assessment is completed in early September. Chat to your instructor or Trip if you have any questions.
INTERMEDIATE SELF DEFENCE WORKSHOP
We are running an intermediate self-defence workshop on Friday 29 July from 6-9 pm. This workshop will build on the self-defence skills taught in our general classes and will include scenario-based self-defence drills, based on habitual acts of physical violence with increased realism. It is suitable for students over 14. Please register via the website: https://www.sangrok.net.au/workshops/
WOMEN’S TRAINING DAY
We are running a women’s training session on Sunday 17 July from 2-4 pm (RSVP essential). Come along for a workout, snacks and a chat. This session is also open to any partners or mums of members who would like to give taekwondo a go in a small group environment! To RSVP please just email info@sangrok.net.au and it’s absolutely fine to bring kids along.
MOUTHGUARDS COMPULSORY FOR ALL SPARRING CLASSES
Sangrok has implemented a “no mouthguard, no training” policy for all sparring classes.
What does “no mouthguard, no training” mean? It means that you can’t participate in any partner training drills (kicking chest guards) or any controlled or free sparring if you don’t have a mouthguard. If you forget your mouthguard you can do the same drills with pads/paddles or on the towers, so you won’t miss out on training entirely.
Why are mouthguards important? Mouthguards protect against oral injury and lacerations as well as head injury and concussion. Just like in all other contact sports (e.g. football), we have a legal responsibility to ensure participants are appropriately equipped for training and students may not elect not to wear protective gear.
Where can you get a mouthguard? From your dentist, for the best quality, fitted mouthguards, from a sports store or pharmacy, or we can supply you a $5 mouthguard if you forget yours.
JEWELLERY AND WATCHES
Just a reminder to remove any jewellery, watches, fitness bands etc prior to training to avoid injury to you or your training partner (as well as accidental damage).
FEEDBACK SURVEY
Please don’t forgot to fill out our feedback survey! We really value your feedback and suggestions: https://forms.gle/ivdiSRmbhhTp196y6
