Happy new year and welcome to a new year of training at Sangrok! We are looking forward to introducing new classes this year, continuing to offer great training opportunities for our members, and celebrating 10 years of Sangrok!
TRAINING DATES FOR JANUARY
Training will start in on Saturday 4 January with all our normal classes offered! Our new classes (keep reading!) will be starting in February.
The theme for the next month of training is “Instructor choice”, so if there is anything in particular that you would like to learn or practise over the next few weeks please just let us know via email.
NEW CLASSES FOR 2025
To celebrate our 10 year anniversary and welcome new members to the club, we are introducing two new classes.
Sangrok Mini! is our new fast-paced fun-based class for 4 to 7 year olds! Sangrok Mini! will run on Saturdays at 10.30 am and parents are welcome to stay and watch or grab a coffee at the cafe around the corner. This class is free for children or siblings of current members for the first term! Please share our new class with your friends, family, and colleagues, and of course, on social media!
We are also offering a new intermediate class on Thursdays at 6.30 pm.
Both these classes are being offered on a trial basis for the first term so good attendance is important for us to keep running these classes in Term 2 and beyond.
HOT WEATHER TRAINING
As we move into the hottest months of the year, please ensure that you bring a water bottle with you to training and that you have had enough to eat and drink throughout the day. We do our best to keep the dojang as cool as possible, however, being on the second floor with west facing windows makes this a seasonal challenge! If you forget your drink bottle, we have some cups available (please remember to wash up at the end of the class).
Please do not wear multiple layers to training (i.e. a layer of clothing under your uniform) for safety reasons – if you require a layer for modesty please get in touch with us to we can recommend something safe.
If you are feeling unwell during class, please let your instructor know straight away.
Following the Sports Medicine Australia guidelines for training in extreme heat, the following may be used to mitigate the high temperatures in the dojang:
- Extra rest and water breaks
- Modify clothing – students may wear t-shirts to training in summer and may be asked to remove excess layers prior to training
- Active cooling
- Stop exercising – this may mean that the class focuses on conditioning and/or stretching
In very rare circumstances classes may be cancelled due to extreme temperatures – in these instances students will be notified via email and social media 2 hours before the class is scheduled to begin. Ensure that you have registered for classes via your Clubworx portal or app so that you can be notified.
T-SHIRTS FOR SUMMER
In January and February, students may wear a t-shirt to training. Please note the following conditions:
- T-shirts must have sleeves (no singlets for hygiene reasons)
- T-shirts must be a Sangrok branded t-shirt or a PLAIN navy or PLAIN white t-shirt without any logos or embellishments
- Full dobok must be worn for gradings and formal events
T-shirts can be purchased at cost price (we don’t apply any mark-up) from our online apparel store.
GRADING
Congratulations to all our students who achieved a new belt at our December grading, and thank you to the volunteers who assisted at grading to make it possible!
Our first grading for 2025 will be on Saturday 5 April.
