It has been a busy year at Sangrok already with an interclub training seminar, a team meeting, a photoshoot, and a poomsae workshop… and we still have our first aid training and grading to go! The March newsletter has all the information you need for training this month!

Please don’t forget that there is no training on Monday 11 March due to the Canberra Day long weekend! Enjoy your extra day off and we will see you at a different training session this week 🙂

GRADING DATE

To accommodate first aid training for our instructing team, it has been necessary to change the date of grading for blue and red belts.

  • White belt and yellow (including orange and green) belt grading: Saturday 6 April, 10.45am.
  • Blue (including purple and grey) and red (including brown) belt grading: Saturday 13 April, 10.45am (please note, as part of your grading, you are required to assist at the white and yellow belt grading on Saturday 6 April).

PRE-GRADING ASSESSMENT CHANGES

Blue belt students (including purple and grey belts) will now complete an informal pre-grading assessment to confirm your eligibility at grading. This is to help our instructing team better identify students who are ready for promotion and to help prepare students for the individual pre-grading process from red belt and beyond. This will occur during “Feedback” training week, so it is important that all blue/purple/grey belt students attend at least 1 class during this training focus (beginning 9 March this term).

Red belt students will also notice that their individual pre-grading assessment templates have been updated. Keep your eye out for an email explaining the changes.

FULL UNIFORM FOR TRAINING

As we’re now out of summer, please wear your full dobok and belt for all training sessions.

NEXT POOMSAE WORKSHOP

In terms 1 and 2 we are running poomsae workshops on the first Saturday of each month. Due to grading and Easter, we have brought the next one forward. The Sa Jang and Sam Jang poomsae session will be held on Saturday 16 March at 10.30am. Please book this session via Clubworx or simply email us (especially if Clubworx won’t let you join the class). This session is open to all belt levels; work on your current poomsae, learn a new one, or practise an old one!

FIRST AID

We are hosting a private first aid course for our instructing team to renew their qualifications. If you would like to join the course, please let us know. The price will be $130 per person and includes pre-course training material (completed online with a mandatory quiz) and a practical assessment in person at the dojang for senior first aid and CPR. It will run at 1pm on Saturday 6 April and will go for 2-3 hours.

DRINK BOTTLES/LOST PROPERTY

We think it’s a great idea to leave your drink bottle at the club so you don’t forget it. So it doesn’t end up being inadvertently disposed of, please label your drink bottle. You can borrow a marker from us or bring in a sticker from home!
